During WWII, the German Army encountered numerous water obstacles, particularly in Russia's undeveloped regions. Among their solutions were amphibious vehicles, one being the Panzerfhre, or 'armored ferry.' This armored amphibious tractor, designed to succeed the unarmored Landwasserschlepper, operated in pairs with a self-floating pontoon between them, enabling them to ferry vehicles and light tanks across water barriers. Based on the Panzer IV's hull, the PzF was intended to carry heavier tanks but was discontinued in 1942 due to weight limitations. Only two prototypes were made, serving on the Eastern Front from mid-1942.
